MARK NILSEN—SONG-1993
Song inspired by the plaque in Aureet's memory at Sandy pond. The wording from the plaque was used as the chorus and the additional verses were written based on Aureet's poetry and writings as well as impressions from things told about Aureet.
Ice Broke Hearts
The sky's so blue it hurts, not even a cloud
sun glazing a rippling lake,
trees
crack shadows in the ground
I head down a path well worn
flowing with the day
beyond a cascade of forest, near the shore is
a reflection on light, bronze letters saying
Shiver to think of her light, her warmth,
Forever frozen in this clear cold pond.
May its glimmer give you pause...
For ice broke hearts the day she drowned.
I found my tears flowing with a strangers tears
sharing pains around a lake
of
loss filled over these years
Then the whole embankment crumbled
a surge rushed over me
I met you like a spring meets a river and that river meets an
ocean
waves through my heart stirring my emotion
Shiver to think of her light, her warmth,
Forever frozen in this clear cold pond.
May its glimmer give you pause...
For ice broke hearts the day she drowned.
Trying to find hope while I grope
for relief from grieving
in dark misleading me everywhere
through dust of despair lost hope then
to a door left open
leading me to a lake
a breeze
a warmer day and this vision of meaning
Shiver to think of her light, her warmth,
Forever frozen in this clear cold pond.
May its glimmer give you pause...
For ice broke hearts the day she drowned.
Taking wing over a lake
a
butterfly beautifies the sky
in the stillness of noon lies an open cocoon
spun
like day spins into night
a life given so a life could grow
a thread of meaning from this grave.
I leave it into the fabric of my life
remembering you for what you gave
Shiver to think of her light, her warmth,
Forever frozen in this clear cold pond.
May its glimmer give you pause...
For ice broke hearts the day she drowned.
